Fukuda test (on-the-spot walking test)
clinical test to assess vestibulospinal function and detect possible unilateral lesions of the vestibular system. The patient is asked to march in place with their eyes closed and arms outstretched for 50 to 100 steps. A rotation of more than about 30 degrees from the initial position may indicate a vestibular imbalance, more often associated with peripheral pathology. The test is simple and quick to perform, but its results should be evaluated together with other vestibular techniques, as they can be influenced by proprioceptive or motor factors.
