Gender stereotypes

socially constructed categories of “masculinity” and “femininity”, which are confirmed by gender-specific behavior, different distribution of men and women within social roles and statuses; and which are supported by the psychological needs of a person to behave in a socially desirable manner and to feel his integrity, consistency; schematized, generalized, socially shared images of masculinity and femininity, which are emotionally evaluative in nature. The properties of gender stereotypes are: emotional and evaluative nature; resilience and stability; a high degree of unity of ideas; normativity.
