Giftedness and neuropsychological problems

are a complex aspect of child development. A child’s exceptional abilities or outstanding achievements in a particular area do not necessarily mean that his or her development is balanced and normative. A gifted child may demonstrate excellence in certain areas—music, math, or the arts—but this may be accompanied by deficiencies in other areas: language skills, the ability to maintain attention and focus, or even emotional regulation and social adjustment. This discrepancy between strengths and weaknesses reflects so-called disharmonious development, in which not all aspects of development proceed equally quickly or harmoniously, which presents the child with unique problems that require deep understanding and a comprehensive approach. Therefore, the consideration of giftedness should not be carried out in isolation from the identification of these difficulties, but within the framework of a comprehensive concept that takes into account the uniqueness of the child and aims to develop his strengths, while providing support in his weaknesses, allowing him to achieve balance and integrity in his personal, cognitive and emotional development.
