Gilligan Island Amnesia
An informal term that describes a phenomenon in which people, usually after a traumatic brain injury or neurological disorder, lose the ability to recall or recognize familiar but seemingly inconsequential details, such as names, places, or facts. The term was coined with humor based on the TV show Gilligan’s Island, where characters often forgot key details about their surroundings despite being in familiar places, but it highlights how certain brain damages can affect memory and prevent a person from recalling everyday information. Treatment usually includes cognitive rehabilitation.
