The most severe form of aphasia, characterized by serious impairments both in the production of speech and in its understanding. People with global aphasia experience difficulties with speaking, speech comprehension, reading, and writing, a condition that occurs with extensive damage to both Broca’s area and Wernicke’s area, as well as other brain structures associated with language function.
