A group of aphasia characterized by slow, strained, and incomplete speech, in which patients have difficulty choosing words and constructing grammatically correct sentences. Speech comprehension may remain intact, but fluency is severely impaired. Inexpressive aphasia is often associated with damage to the frontal areas of the brain, such as Broca’s area.
