Integrated Information Theory

A neuroscientific and philosophical model that offers an explanation of the nature of consciousness by measuring the degree of integration and diversity of information in a system. According to IIT, consciousness arises in those systems that are capable of simultaneously possessing a high degree of information coherence and unique data integration, that is, when the whole contains more information than the sum of its parts. The theory proposes quantitative methods for assessing the level of consciousness based on the structure and interaction of neural networks, which contributes to the understanding of both biological and artificial forms of consciousness.
