Intercultural Communication
the process of communication and exchange of information between representatives of different cultures, nationalities or ethnic groups, in which interaction takes place on the basis of understanding and respect for cultural differences. It includes not only knowledge of the language of another culture, but also an understanding of its values, norms, traditions and attitudes, which ensures adequate mutual understanding of the participants in communication. The main characteristics of intercultural communication:
1) participants adhere to their own cultural norms, which can cause differences in the perception and interpretation of messages;
2) requires the ability to “translate” and adapt messages taking into account the values and traditions of another culture;
3) carries the risk of misunderstanding and conflict due to cultural differences, which requires the development of tolerance and intercultural competence skills.
