Intrusive verification of information using digital technologies
Compulsive, difficult-to-control behavior characterized by constant and repetitive searching, refining, and monitoring of digital data (news, notifications, messages, social media, health indicators, etc.) in order to reduce anxiety, insecurity, and gain a sense of control, but with the opposite effect of increased stress, maladjustment, and disruption of normal daily functioning. This is a maladaptive strategy for coping with anxiety, reinforced by the digital environment, where technology is not the cause, but acts as a catalyst and tool for the implementation of obsessive behavior. From a psychological point of view, this behavior can lead to chronic anxiety, as a person begins to constantly doubt the reliability of the information received and feels that digital technologies cannot be fully trusted.
