Iowa Famous Face Recognition Test

A neuropsychological technique designed to assess the ability to recognize and identify famous people from photographs, matching individuals who are familiar in a particular cultural and geographic context (in this case, the U.S., especially Iowa). Participants are shown pictures of famous people and asked to name them or give information about them. The test assesses both facial recognition and semantic memory, and is used to detect disorders such as prosopagnosia, semantic dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, or memory loss after brain injuries. Regional adaptation helps reduce cultural bias in testing.
