Liminality

a state that arises at the moment of transition from one stage of development to another, that is, associated with life changes or crises of development, with changes in general or with a situation of uncertainty. Unlike crises, liminal states often imply a conscious restructuring of life, a desire for something different, a natural stage of development, which is not necessarily associated with negative external factors. Liminal changes are those associated with a person’s personality, values, beliefs, ideas about himself and others. These changes have not yet taken hold, but they have already begun to take place.
