Mead, George Herbert (1863-1931)

American philosopher, psychologist, sociologist, representative of the Chicago School of Sociology, one of the representatives of symbolic interactionism. He is considered the founder of symbolic social theory: the study of social interaction and its impact on political behavior and collective emotions. In his work “Mind, Self and Society” (1934), an analysis of the formation of personality and group identity and its influence on political behavior is carried out. Mead introduced such a concept as “self” – the ability of a person to consider himself not only as a subject, but also as an object (to see himself from the outside through the eyes of other people).
