From the point of view of psychology, misogyny can be both external (on the part of society, institutions and individuals) and internalized – when women unconsciously internalize misogynistic attitudes, directing aggression or distrust towards themselves and other women. Misogyny is associated with impaired self-esteem, gender identity, and psycho-emotional well-being.
