Missing twin syndrome

A condition in which one of the twins dies before birth or at an early stage of development, and the other continues to live. As a rule, this occurs in the first trimester of pregnancy. Based on the analysis of the works of different authors, the following psychological manifestations of the consequences of the loss of a twin in the womb can be distinguished:
1) a tendency to depression, isolation, loneliness, guilt, a sense of insecurity, anxiety, grief, sadness;
2) the triad of feelings “guilt, anger, fear”;
3) perception of the world as unsafe, fear of death, aggression towards others;
4) disorientation, dissociation, disorders of attachment structures;
5) difficulties in identifying and building relationships;
6) psychosomatic disorders, etc.
