Motivational theories

theories that consider the role of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation in managing the learning process and motivating people to continue learning and achieve results. They assume that the desire to learn, faith in one’s ability to succeed and awareness of the personal value of knowledge are the most important factors in the success of a student. The most important principles are:
1) People learn best when they have intrinsic motivation.
2) Success and failure affect future behavior.
3) Motivations are divided into internal (coming from a person) and external (related to reward).
Known models:
1) The theory of self-efficacy (Bandura) reflects the degree of confidence of a person in his ability to perform a certain task.
2) Goal theory: distinguishes between goals of mastery (focus on learning) and goals of performance (focus on comparison with others).
3) The theory of expectations and values: assumes that a person’s motivation is related to his expectation of success and the value of the task for him.
