Narcotics Anonymous (Alcoholic) Groups
a form of group mutual assistance to people with addictions, which involves 12 points (“steps”) to recovery. Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) was the first to emerge, and then the program expanded to treat various addictions. The format of the group itself does not include drug treatment and is a spiritual practice aimed at raising moral strength. The 12 steps of the program include: acknowledging the loss of control over behavior, admitting mistakes, compensating for the damage caused, etc. A sober addict, that is, a person who has gone through a sufficient path of abstinence, can become a mentor for new members of the group.
