Negativism

a psychopathological symptom consisting in non-fulfillment of requests and demands. Passive negativism and active negativism are distinguished. Passive consists in senseless opposition, unmotivated refusal to act; active – in performing opposite actions. Negativism is characteristic of catatonic syndrome (see Catatonic syndrome (catatonia) in Chapter 2.1. Key Psychological Concepts in Clinical Psychology).
