Neuromuscular relaxation

A technique aimed at purposefully reducing the level of muscle and nervous tension through alternate voluntary contraction and subsequent relaxation of various muscle groups. This method is based on conscious control of muscle tone, which contributes to the formation of a stable relaxation skill, reducing psycho-emotional tension and preventing stressful conditions. Systematic use of neuromuscular relaxation procedures contributes to the optimization of the general functional state of the body and the improvement of the adaptive capabilities of the individual. The method was developed by the American physiologist and psychiatrist Edmund Jacobson at the beginning of the XX century.
