The study of only one variable to understand its distribution and basic characteristics in order to describe a phenomenon or state and measure the mean, standard deviation, or statistical distribution of a single variable. Examples of this are measuring the stress level of a group of students and estimating the average sleep duration of workers in a particular enterprise using descriptive statistics, graphs and frequency distributions.
