Perception of numbers written on the tip of the finger, or graphesthesia,
A neurological test to assess the brain’s ability to recognize numbers drawn on the skin, usually on the tips of the fingers, without visual control. During the test, the researcher displays numbers on the patient’s skin with a blunt object, and the patient must name them. Performance disorders may indicate lesions of the parietal lobe, damage to the sensory pathways, or cortical sensory deficits. The method helps to distinguish peripheral nerve lesions from pathologies of the central nervous system.
