A form of acquired writing disorder in which it is difficult to correctly spell unfamiliar or fictitious words that cannot be written down through lexical access. Patients with phonological agraphia have difficulty converting phonemes into graphemes (matching sounds to letters) and rely on a lexical (visual) pathway. It is usually associated with lesions in the left inferior parietal lobe and temporal regions.
