Prolonged grief response (prolonged grief)
diagnostic unit identified in ICD-11. It is characterized by the presence 6 months after the loss, pronounced suffering and persistent functional decline. This means that not every grief reaction is normal: some combinations of the severity and duration of grief are outside the norm. The pathology is the duration of the symptom, not the presence of the symptom as such (hence the emphasis on “prolongation” in the name of the term).
