Proprioception
(proprioception; from the Latin proprius – “own, special” and receptor – “receiving”) – muscular feeling, that is, the feeling of the position of parts of one’s own body relative to each other and in space. Thanks to proprioception, a person senses position (the ability to sense the angle at which each joint is located, and in total the sensation of the position and posture of the whole body), movement (information about the direction and speed of movement of the joints) and strength (the ability to assess the muscular effort applied to move or to hold the joint in a certain position).
