Pure Alexia

Reading disorder, in which the patient loses the ability to read but retains the ability to write and understand speech. People with pure alexia may not recognize words when reading, although they can understand them if they are spoken aloud.The impairment is usually associated with damage to the visual area of the brain that is responsible for processing written information, such as when the visual cortex in the left hemisphere is damaged.
