Rehabilitation of Persons with Disabilities in the Community

Rehabilitation activities that are carried out in natural settings, in a community or in communities, while ensuring the interaction of persons with disabilities with members of this community. The main goal of this approach is the inclusion of persons with disabilities in the life of society. The work is carried out at the meso level, relying on the immediate environment and social networks. One of the principles of working in the community is capacity building. Capacity building is the process by which people with disabilities gain control over events, outcomes, and resources that are important to them (see Philosophy of Independent Living of a Person with a Disability in Chapter 2.5. Key Psychological Concepts in Special Category Psychology).
