Rehabilitation potential
a complex of biological, psychophysiological characteristics of a person, as well as socio-environmental factors that make it possible to realize his potential abilities to a greater or lesser extent and to determine the possible level of restoration of impaired functions and social ties. There is a basic component of the rehabilitation potential or the potential of the “first order” – the level of physical development, somatic diseases, characterological features, mental development and condition, features of the motivational sphere and social functioning and other components inherent in this individual and preserved despite the disease or disorder. They serve as the basis for the development of an individual rehabilitation program, a prerequisite for the restoration of social status. The “second-order” potential is a variety of social and environmental factors: family, professional, the presence of support groups or public organizations, legal, national-cultural, economic, administrative-territorial, and others. They determine the possibility of a rehabilitation program. To characterize the rehabilitation potential, the following indicators are used:
1) high rehabilitation potential – complete restoration of all types of life activities, ability to work and social status that are common for a person;
2) medium rehabilitation potential – incomplete recovery with the preservation of a moderately pronounced impairment of function, performance of basic activities with difficulty in a limited volume or with the help of technical means;
3) low rehabilitation potential – progressive course of the disease, pronounced impairment of functions; significant limitation in the performance of most types of activity, expressed by a decrease in the ability to work and the ability to social integration; there is a need for social support and constant material assistance;
4) lack of rehabilitation potential – a pronounced impairment of function, the inability to independently perform the main types of activity.
