Ribot’s Law (Law of Memory Regression, Law of Reverse Development of Memory)
A theory that describes a specific sequence of memory impairment in progressive amnesia. The law was formulated by the French psychologist Théodule Ribot at the end of the XIX century and named after him. According to T. Ribot, the process of memory loss follows a certain path: first, information that is less firmly fixed in memory is lost, then more and more firmly fixed (events of youth, emotionally significant experiences, habits). Therefore, even in normal aging, along with the weakening of memory for recent events, memories of the distant past are actualized in it, in connection with which the elderly often attach themselves to memories of their youth.
