The 5 stages of a brief motivational interview: significance (helping the patient understand why behavior change is important to the patient), risks (discussing the possible negative consequences of the patient not changing behavior), rewards (discussing the possible positive consequences of behavior change), obstacles (discussing possible obstacles to behavior change), repetition (repeating the algorithm if necessary).
