Social desirability
a factor that distorts self-reports, in particular, from the answer to the items of personality questionnaires, by increasing the frequency of those self-reports that seem to the subjects more attractive, socially acceptable, presenting them in a favorable light. The influence of social desirability should be taken into account when developing any questionnaires, tests and scales that use the reports themselves. There are a number of ways to reduce their impact – for example, compiling each item of the questionnaire from two alternatives that are equal in desirability. In addition, methods have been developed that specifically measure the propensity of the subject to give socially desirable answers.
