Social-emotional disorder syndrome (SER)
A childhood disorder that affects a child’s ability to recognize their own and others’ emotions, control impulses, and participate in normal social interactions. This disorder leads to problems in building social relationships, sharing toys, and understanding social rules and acceptable behaviors. The syndrome is often caused by a delay in the development of neural networks associated with emotional and social functioning, and can be exacerbated by inadequate social stimulation or inappropriate educational experiences. Early intervention focuses on developing emotional and social skills, raising emotional awareness, and teaching social coping strategies to ensure the child’s successful participation in family and school life.
