Social power
The ability to influence the behavior or decisions of others based on one’s status, experience, resources, or legitimacy. This power can be formal (e.g., laws and positions) or informal (e.g., personal influence or charisma). In interpersonal communication, social power determines who has the right to direct the dialogue, who makes the final decision, and how roles are distributed in a relationship or group.
