Spastic dysarthria
motor speech disorder caused by bilateral lesions of the upper motor neurons, affecting the pyramidal and extrapyramidal pathways. It is characterized by spasticity, slow and strained speech, a voice with a tinge of “compression”, reduced variability of intonation, inaccurate articulation of consonants and hypernasality. Common causes include stroke, traumatic brain injury, multiple sclerosis, and cerebral palsy.
