Status epilepticus
motor convulsions or repeated seizures without regaining consciousness in between. There seem to be as many types of status as there are varieties of epileptic seizures. But the status of convulsive seizures, which poses a threat to the patient’s life, is of decisive importance. Patients are in a coma with frequent and constant convulsions. Without treatment, status epilepticus is rapidly complicated by dehydration, electrolyte disturbances, aspiration pneumonia, cardiac arrhythmias, secondary anoxic encephalopathy, and hypothermia.
