Stress Event Assessment
A cognitive process by which a person interprets and evaluates a certain situation as stressful or threatening to psychological and physical well-being. According to the theory of stress assessment (Lazarus & Folkman, 1984), the impact of a stressful event depends not only on the event itself, but also on how the person evaluates it and on his or her perceived ability to cope with it.
