The Bohr-Weber law or discriminatory threshold law
Bohr-Weber law or the law of the discriminative threshold: It is an objective psychophysical law. It expresses a person’s ability to distinguish between an added stimulus and an original stimulus in physical properties (e.g. height, color, shape, form, mass…) so that the properties are similar between the added and original stimulus. Many studies have shown that this law is only valid for the middle part of the sensory range. where the differential sensitivity is maximum. Outside this region, the relative threshold increases. the relative threshold increases. increases very significantly. In this regard some researchers accept Boger-Weber’s law. but consider it somewhat idealized; others are looking for new formulas. It should be noted that in the framework of classical psychophysics. this law has great theoretical significance. Gustav Fechner, the founder of psychophysics, relied on it to derive the fundamental psychophysical law. |
