The concept of digital empathy
The ability of people to perceive and respond to the emotions of others, as well as to show empathy in digital media such as social media, text messages, and virtual environments. This concept is a natural evolution of emotional communication models in the digital age, highlighting how emotional intelligence can extend to cyberspace. It was first identified by Christopher Terry and Cain in 2015 in their research on digital literacy and was further developed in 2016 by researcher Yonti Friesem, who presented a model that combines the cognitive, emotional, and compassionate aspects of empathy in the digital environment. Freezem argued that online empathy is not just a superficial simulation, but can be profound and have a powerful psychological and social impact.
