The idea of “need and pressure”
A central component of the American psychologist Henry Murray’s theory of personality (personology):
1) Needs: Intrinsic motives that guide behavior, such as the need for love, achievement, autonomy, or control.
2) Pressure or influence: external factors or environment that affect the individual, such as the presence of competition, social support, financial or educational constraints.
3) Human behavior is explained by the interaction of internal needs with external environmental pressure.
