The phenomenon of the “luxury trap”
sociological and psychological effect, in which luxury turns into a necessity and generates new needs. As soon as a person gets used to a new convenience, he takes it for granted, and therefore counts on it. There comes a time when it is no longer possible to do without the familiar. Scientists call a variety of things as examples of this phenomenon (the so-called “benefits of civilization”, but not only – for example, supporters of geographical determinism cite the example of the agrarian revolution (transition to agriculture)). From a psychological point of view, the “luxury trap” is often considered within the framework of applied counseling psychology in determining the true values and preferences of the client.
