The role of equality in maintaining relationships

A state of mutual equilibrium and fairness between the parties, in which each party feels that its return in the relationship is offset by what it receives from the other party, whether emotionally, socially, materially, or symbolically. From a psychological point of view, equality contributes to the emergence of a sense of mutual appreciation and respect, as a person sees that his efforts and needs are recognized and appreciated by the other party, which motivates him to continue to invest emotionally in the relationship. From a social perspective, equality provides a fairer distribution of roles and responsibilities and prevents one party from dominating or exploiting the other, which contributes to the long-term stability of the relationship. Equality also helps to reduce the level of conflict, as a sense of equality reduces the likelihood of accumulating negative feelings or frustration due to the inability to meet needs. In addition, each party’s awareness that the relationship is based on balanced exchange strengthens commitment and loyalty, making it more resilient to external challenges and pressures. From the point of view of the stability of the relationship, parity ensures that neither party feels only “giving” or “receiving”. In contrast, relationships are based on fair and constant exchange, which makes them more stable and capable of developing over time. In this sense, parity is not just a condition for fairness in relations; an effective mechanism to ensure their survival and development, as it establishes mutual trust and strengthens the sense of value of each of the parties in the relationship.
