Theory about the order of birth of a child
concept developed within the framework of neo-Freudianism by Alfred Adler. He suggested that the position of a child in the family is in a certain way related to the formation of certain personal qualities in him. The scientist identified the following “ordinal positions” of a child in the family: the only child, the eldest child in the family, the middle child, the youngest of two children, the youngest of three or more children. Adler showed that children differ in character depending on the order of birth.
