Theory of emotional regulation
A theory that states that the inability to control emotions and feelings is the underlying cause of psychosomatic symptoms. People who suppress their emotions or are unable to express them in a healthy way may channel their energy into the body, manifesting with symptoms such as headaches, stomachaches, or skin problems. Conversely, training emotional regulation skills, such as being aware of emotions and expressing them appropriately, reduces the likelihood of these symptoms.
