A form of aphasia in which people can repeat words and phrases but have difficulty understanding spoken or written language. Their speech is often fluent but devoid of meaning, a condition that occurs when the posterior language regions of the brain, such as the areas surrounding Wernicke’s area, are damaged, while retaining the ability to repeat.
