Transgenerational transmission (transmission through generations)
A term and concept in psychology and psychotherapy that means the non-genetic hereditary transmission of psychotraumatic experience to subsequent generations. It is based on the research of the unconscious family heritage in Freud’s psychoanalysis, Jungian psychoanalysis, and family therapy. It is an integral part of the mechanism of transgenerational trauma.
