The center of speech perception, located in the posterior part of the superior temporal gyrus of the dominant hemisphere, when it is damaged, sensory aphasia occurs. It is named after the German neurologist Karl Wernick (see Wernicke, Karl in Chapter 5 Famous Scientists, Their Scientific Schools and Organizations in Psychological Science).
