World Health Organization (WHO)

is an international specialized organization that is part of the United Nations, ensuring cooperation between different countries in the field of protecting the health of the peoples of the world. The main functions are the management and coordination of international activities for the development of health services, the provision of technical and scientific advisory assistance to developing countries in the creation of national health care, the promotion and development of work to combat morbidity and mortality of the population, the protection of motherhood and childhood, the training of medical personnel, the provision of broad information for medical workers and the population in the field of health and medicine. It sets international standards for food products, medicines, revises the international classification of diseases every 10 years, holds international conferences, organizes the activities of expert committees, international groups for advanced training of medical workers. The governing body is the World Health Assembly (WHA), which meets once a year; the executive committee, committees of experts, regional committees are constantly operating; it is headquartered in Geneva.
