Zone of proximal development (ZBR)
Vygotsky’s concept, which describes the development of a child’s cognitive and behavioral functions, the difference between what a child can achieve on his own and what he can achieve with the help of a more experienced adult or peer. This concept makes diagnosis and treatment a dynamic process, focusing on the child’s latent potential rather than simply measuring current deficits. By supporting the child in this zone, it is possible to improve his learning, develop cognitive strategies and increase his ability to self-adapt and compensate for deficiencies. In this way, the therapeutic intervention becomes aimed at developing strengths and stimulating growth, rather than simply trying to correct deficiencies.
