Berne, Eric (1910–1970)

American psychologist and psychiatrist. He is best known as a developer of transactional analysis and scenario analysis. Developing the ideas of psychoanalysis, the general theory and method of treating nervous and mental diseases, Berne focused on the “transactions” that underlie interpersonal relationships. He called some types of transactions that had a hidden purpose “games.” Berne considers three ego states: Adult, Parent, and Child (which are not Freudian egos, superegos, and ids). Coming into contact with the environment, a person, according to Berne, is always in one of these states. Real name: Leonard Bernstein.
