Dereflection

a therapeutic method of logotherapy developed by V. Frankl. The method is that a person is recommended to switch attention from himself to the meanings and values that he can embody in the world around him. By means of this method, a person becomes able to “ignore” his neurosis or symptom, diverting his attention from himself. Dereflection is aimed at neutralizing hyperreflexia (see Hyperreflection in Chapter 2.1. Key Psychological Concepts in Clinical Psychology). V. Frankl notes that “dereflection can be achieved only to the extent that the patient’s consciousness is directed towards positive aspects. <…> The key to recovery is self-fulfillment.”
