Paradoxical intention
method developed by V. Frankl and used in psychotherapy. In simple words, V. Frankl called the paradoxical intention “ridicule of neurosis.” Within the framework of this method, a person who has a certain phobia is recommended to perform specifically, in a somewhat exaggerated and slightly humorous form, exactly those actions that can cause fear. The goal of paradoxical intention is to reduce anxiety or fear associated with a particular situation or behavior. Paradoxical intention is effective in the treatment of obsessive, compulsive, and phobic states, especially in cases that are associated with anticipatory anxiety. In addition, it is a fast-acting therapeutic method.
