Fred Fiedler (1922–2017)
American psychologist, one of the leading representatives of organizational psychology of the XX century. He studied the problem of leadership and, based on numerous experimental data, came to the conclusion that different types of leaders are required for different situations, and there is no type of ideal leader. In 1967, he also developed the so-called “Fiedler contingency model”, which shows the relationship between the productivity of an employee and his motivation. Fiedler’s ideas had a certain impact on organizational psychology in the USSR in the 1970s and 1980s.
